The Daily Mail is Furious.

Daily Mail Front Page

The Daily Mail is furious today. Furious that my wife is to be "allowed" to stay in this country.

The Daily Mail is furious that the wives, husbands and partners of millions of other British people might be "allowed" to stay.

The Daily Mail is furious that the parents of British children might be "allowed" to remain with their families.

The Daily Mail is furious that 300,000 Irish people might be permitted to keep living in this country. Furious that people who hold another nationality in addition to British could continue to make Britain their home. The Mail is also furious about our children being "allowed" to stay in the only country they have ever known. They must be, because you can't reach that 3.8m figure without including all of those "EU migrants" (aka "people") too.

The Daily Mail is furious that employers, entrepreneurs, carers, nurses, doctors, engineers, and other professionals might continue to contribute to the well-being of this nation. Furious, furious, furious.

It's funny, I never call her by the name "EU migrant". To me she is my wife, the woman I love. Someone who has made this country her home for 30 years, always worked and paid tax. She did not move here as an "EU economic migrant", but as a young woman who married a British man. She stayed here for love, raised two kids.

What saddens me more than anything is that most of our friends did this to our family. You went into a polling booth one Thursday, two years ago, and decided that people like my family are the biggest problem with this country. Let's fuck up everything for them. You don't care how much harm it does to yourselves, our wealth, or our country. You hold so much anger and resentment towards foreigners that you want families like ours to be made unwelcome, to put us in a hostile environment, to make us want to leave. And so here we are. After 30 years, we are forced to apply for permission to be allowed to continue to live in the country that we chose to build our future in. And pay £65 for the resulting loss of accumulated rights and security.

We always thought that Britain would be our forever home, a place of refuge in which to raise our children.

Just goes to show that you can be wrong about anything,

The Daily Mail is furious today. Full of rage, and anger, and hate.
